ALFRED (AL) M. DUGAN, age 86, passed away at home on April 6, 2019. Al was born in Lakewood, Ohio on February 19, 1933 to Anne (nee Lavelle) and Martin Dugan. He was married to his loving wife, Marleen Steinberg on May 16, 1953 at St. Charles Borromeo Church, Parma, OH. They enjoyed 39 years of marriage until her death in 1992.  Al always kept a special place in his heart for Marleen and we take comfort in knowing they are together again in Heaven with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and his mother, the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Al is preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Anne Dugan; his siblings Colletta LaVerne Dugan King, Mary Rita Dugan Murphy, Martin Ralph Dugan, Ann Evelyn Dugan O'Malley and Frances Ann Dugan Kirkwood. He is survived by his six children Colleen (Kasimer, deceased), Michael (Liz), Kevin, Shawn (Heather) and "the twins" Bridget (Robert) and Brian (Lisa); grandchildren Ryan, Erin and Amy; Jennifer (Nick), Michael (Erin) and Kelly; Meghan, Michael and Maria; Brennan and Liam; and great-grandchildren Austin, Dylan and Pamela; Taylor and Gavin; McKayla and Blake; Jack; Quinn; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Al loved his family very much and was very proud of all his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He looked forward and cherished the times they had together. He closely followed what they were doing and supported them along the way.  When he couldn't be there in person, he was always there in spirit.  He loved watching his children and grandchildren play sports. His grandchildren in Oklahoma were blessed to have their grandfather so close that he could attend many of their events. Al was very proud of attending the events, wearing their game day photo buttons. Al always wished he could spend more time traveling to visit his other grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Al was a loyal Notre Dame fan and attended games over the years at the University with family and friends. He especially cherished the Saturdays during football season that he spent with his son, Brian, watching Irish football.

Al attended St. James in Lakewood and high school at Holy Name. He was very proud of his alma mater, receiving academic and sports recognition. During his youth, he ranked as a Greater Cleveland Golden Glove Champion boxer. He supported Holy Name throughout the years, including recently purchasing a memorial brick for the new stadium.

Following high school, Al joined the Navy and was very proud of his Naval military service aboard the U.S.S. Maloy and his Naval boxing career. He spoke regularly of his friends in the Navy and travels around the world. Al served in the Korean War as Gunners Mate Third Class, receiving a Purple Heart and was Honorably Discharged on September 26, 1955. Following his Navy service, he attended Baldwin Wallace University in Berea, OH, receiving a Degree in Marketing. He had a distinguished career in marketing, where he spent most of his career with Avery Dennison (Carter's Ink) and received many commendations and awards.

Al devoted his younger years as head coach for St. Peter of the Apostle Church CYO football team, with many successful seasons. Many of the local top athletes played for Al over the years. He was ahead of his time with offensive formations and plays which now seem to be the norm.

Al was very active on the local political forefront for Brook Park, OH. He was past President of the Democratic Club and various other support groups for the City and held positions in the Democratic Presidential Conventions in Cleveland, OH. After moving to Oklahoma in 1980 with Marleen, Bridget and Brian, Al became an active member of Epiphany of the Lord Catholic Church where he remained active until his death. He served on the board of the St. Vincent DePaul Society and helped many families in need over the years.

Al was extremely proud of his Irish heritage. He initiated the All Ireland Club of OKC and helped organize the St. Patrick's Day parades. It was important to Al that his and Marleen's Irish heritage be passed on to his children, grandchildren and future generations. Al enjoyed telling family and friends these stories. Al enjoyed playing golf with his buddies, attending sporting events, and spending time with his family and friends. He had a special relationship and fondness for the McDonald's Coffee Club where Al could be found almost every morning. It was not uncommon for Al to take family members to McDonald's for hours showing off his family to friends and his friends to his family. Al will always be remembered for his great smile and the fact that he always had a joke to tell. He could make a friend anywhere and was never in too much of a hurry to stop, talk to someone, reacquaint with an old friend, or make a new one. You always walked away from Al with a smile on your face and a good feeling inside. Al was a deeply religious man and loved his Catholic Faith. Our faith allows us to know that he is in Heaven, praying for us and waiting to welcome us home when we are reunited after this life.
