ANTHONY R. "TONY" VAN ROOY, SR., age 81, was born January 19, 1937 and left this world for a better one on March 17, 2018.  He was watching the morning sun on the Atlantic Ocean when he passed.

Tony attended St. Edward High School and later, the University of Notre Dame.  He was a gourmet cook and loved to entertain.  He was generous to a fault and took great joy in being able to give to others.  He had a wonderful sense of humor and always made you feel welcome.  He loved music, literature, nice clothes, strong coffee, fishing and all things Cleveland.  Above all, however, he loved his family and friends.

He was married to Katherine (nee Horosco), the love of his life, for 56 years.  They raised a family and then traveled the world.  Tony was a great dad to his sons, Tony Jr. (Keely) and Mark (Donna).  Always encouraging, liberal with his compliments and measured with his criticisms.  He helped them to succeed and was there for them when they failed.  He loved his grandchildren dearly; Drew, Nathan, Madison, Zachary and Mason.  He is no doubt watching down on them from heaven.  Preceded in death by his brother William Van Rooy and sister Carol Reidy.  He loved his nieces and nephews, Jay Reidy (Janie), Tom Reidy (Catherine), Francie Kowal (Gary), Bill Van Rooy (Cindy) and Katie Luster (Denny) and treasured every moment he spent with them.

Tony is in a better place where he has been reunited with family and friends who made the same journey before him.  He will be missed.  See you on the other side, Dad.

Funeral Mass Monday, March 26, St. Christopher Church (20141 Detroit Rd., Rocky River) at 11 A.M.  Interment Lakewood Park Cemetery.  Friends may call at CHAMBERS FUNERAL HOME of CLEVELAND, 4420 ROCKY RIVER DR. AT PURITAS, SUNDAY 2-5 P.M.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to St. Ignatius High School, 1911 W. 30th St., Cleveland, OH  44113 or St. Edward High School, 13500 Detroit Ave., Lakewood, OH  44107.
