IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Bernard Keithley
Shaffer, Jr
December 27, 1953 – May 17, 2023
BERNARD KEITHLEY SHAFFER, JR. was born December 27, 1953 in Pittsburgh, PA to Bernard and Verna (Norris) Shaffer Sr. Like all December babies, Ben demanded both a Christmas present and a birthday present, and most importantly the birthday present could not under any circumstances be wrapped in Christmas paper. Ben spent most of his career working as a leasing account manager for AIM NationaLease. He was proud of being a top salesman and earning his navy blazer. On multiple occasions he took his daughters to work with him on take your daughter to work day. They still don't actually know what their dad did for a living, other than he drove around in his car a lot and went out to eat with customers frequently.
Ben liked his French fries golden with an extra side of napkins. You haven't ordered or gotten your food yet? Too bad Ben needs extra napkins. He also loved a good shrimp ring, Bob Evans coleslaw and Skyway burgers. Fun fact, Ben has single-handedly kept Bob (Ben) Evans, Crest Bakery, and Red Robin in business for the past 10 years. Ben loved a clean car, and if there was Guinness World Record award for the cleanest car he would have won multiple times. Ben was a police car awareness aficionado and never got a speeding ticket in his life. He still (allegedly) holds the fastest lap at The Richard Petty School for Driving.
He is survived by his angel wife Barb (Jeewek). How she put up with Ben these past 43 years we will never know, but he certainly loved her so. Ben is also survived by his 3 beautiful, talented, witty, and humble daughters, Katie Shaffer, Brie Bourdo, and Erin Shaffer. Ben loved his annual dad and daughter days, where his beloved daughters would give him grief about his socks pulled up to mid calf, his taste in music, and well everything. They teased him endlessly, yet he still loved them. One of their favorite things to do when they were little was take their dad out to lunch and make him pay. Ben found solace from his daughters eventually, in his favorite son-in-laws Eric Pesto and Gregg Bourdo. The boys were good sports and bonded over being forced to watch Ben's Nascar driving videos repeatedly. Ben often said he wished he had a red headed daughter or a son to bestow his extensive Nascar die cast collection too. His dreams came true through his grandchildren. Ben is survived by his six loving and rambunctious grandchildren, Avery, Harper (the redhead), Sawyer (1st boy), and Declan Pesto, Scarlett and Stella Bourdo. In addition to being proud of his family, Ben was extremely proud of his full head of hair, which he reminded everyone about often. His daughters would like to thank their dad for getting his height, his thick & luxurious hair, and his sense of humor. Ben rests in peace with his best fur friend Calvin next to his beloved parents.
