BERNARD F. WIRTZ, born January 23, 1926 and passed away on May 15, 2024.  He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 70 years, Mary Ann (nee Paydlhauser), his son Paul, his parents, siblings and their spouses, and many cousins. Bernard was a loving and devoted husband and father of ten children, and grandfather and great grandfather to more than 55 grandchildren.  He is survived by his children Bernie (Marie), Mark (Joanne), John (Bridget), David (Yvonne), Kevin (Jill), Carl (Simona), Mary Ann Mack (Randy), Rebecca Lawson (Tom), and Michael (Laurie).

Bernard served in the US Navy during World War II and was part of an engineering unit that restored communications at Pearl Harbor immediately following the historic bombing.  After completing his Naval service, he earned both an Electrical Engineering degree at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, and a Juris Doctorate at Cleveland Marshall Law School. He was admitted to the State of Ohio Bar in 1955. Bernard worked in the electric utility industry for the Cleveland Electric Illuminating Company and started out designing transformers and other equipment, then became Senior Engineer in Plant and Substation Design. He then became Senior Engineer at the state-of-the-art Systems Operation Center in Brecksville Ohio, and worked to modernize the electric grid on the Bulk Power System by synchronizing power generation from multiple plants. He went on to work on many other electrical innovation projects throughout his career.

Bernard joined the Order of Franciscans Secular, 76 years ago where he met his wife, which they both enjoyed in various service roles. Bernard was a model of faithfulness, service, humility, integrity, and love of God and family.

Funeral Mass Monday, May 20, Church of St. Clarence (30106 Lorain Rd.) at 9:30 A.M. Interment St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call at CHAMBERS FUNERAL HOME of NORTH OLMSTED, 29150 LORAIN RD. AT STEARNS RD., SUNDAY 2-4 P.M.
