Edward Douglas Crumley, 74, of Brighton Township, died peacefully at home Saturday, April 7, 2012, surrounded by family members.
He was born Oct. 4, 1937 in Camden, N.J., son of Robert and Miriam Crumley, and was raised in New Jersey. After he finished his schooling, he worked at a restaurant and auto repair shop before joining the Army in the late 1950s.
After the service, he obtained a job with General Electric and worked for the company for 27 1/2 years, transferring to the Oberlin plant in the mid 1970s. After GE closed its Oberlin plant, Ed was hired by Ohio Edison and worked there for 10 years, retiring in 2000.
He was a golf enthusiast who enjoyed playing at local courses, especially with his friends on Wednesday nights. He also liked watching golf tournaments on TV.
A gifted artist, Ed created and painted wooden decoy ducks and shore birds for many years. Some of his carvings were sold at shops and shows.
He was a faithful husband, father and grandfather, and a good provider for his family. He will be missed by all who had the pleasure to know him.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Maureen E. Crumley; children and their spouses, Linda and John Shapcott of Plainville, Conn., Robert and Linda Crumley of Wolcott, Conn., Christine Crumley of Columbia, Conn., and Matt and Jodie Roche of Norwalk; eight grandchildren; sisters, Margaret Aveni of Pitman, N.J., Diana McCullough of Tennessee, Miriam Miller of Blackwood, N.J.; a brother, Michael of Kansas; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Chambers Funeral Home, 29150 Lorain Road, North Olmsted, where a service will take place at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday. Interment will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, Cleveland.
