EDWARD JOHN "E.J." GROENING, age 89, passed peacefully in his home on Wednesday, January 11, 2023.

Edward was born on October 24, 1933 in Cleveland, OH to the late Edward and Mary Groening. He was the oldest of four children. He is survived by his wife Katie Ann (nee Murchison) and brother Paul Groening (Oralia) and is preceded in death by his sisters Arlene Benda (Chuck) and Dolores Astor (Vince) and sister-in-law Peterina "Bunty" Volk.

Edward's memory lives on through the love of his life Katie Ann Groening. The two met in high school where he said, "Jesus was with me when she sat in front of me in 10th grade history class." Ed then served in the United States Navy for four years as a diesel mechanic  during the Korean War. After returning home he married Katie and had four children. Edward "Pete" (Raye), Neil (Christine), Bunty and Glen (Renae). Ed will be cherished in the hearts of his wife and children.

Edward is the proud Grandfather of Patricia (Dale), Danielle (Chris), Reanna (Ryan), Neil (Jessica), Carolyn (Scott), Edward (Noelle), Aiden and Allyson. He also leaves behind 13 great-grandchildren. His memory will live on in the minds of his nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and neighbors.

Ed was a man of many talents. From rebuilding cars to digging out basements by hand and repairing roofs. There was not much he could not do. Ed retired from a very rewarding 35 year career at The Ohio Bell Telephone Company. He was a very active member in his church, Simpson United Methodist, holding a seat on their board for many years. Not one thing would go unfixed or uncleaned while Ed was around. In his later years, on any given warm day, you could find him in his garden or relaxing on his porch glider. On other days you would find him in his shop creating beautiful stained glass or working on countless projects. Ed loved to tell stories from his time in the Navy and all of his great life experiences, even a joke or two. He was a very commited son, brother, husband, father, uncle, grandfather, mentor, christian and friend.

"Like the good Lord said, be happy with what you got and don't ask for more." -Ed

A Celebration of Life Ceremony to come at a later date.
