EDWARD RAYMOND "EDDIE" MURPHY, age 101, was born May 23,1920 to Mary Ann (nee Mulgrew) and Jimmy Murphy, the fourth of seven sons, James, John, Frank, Bernard, Joseph and William, all deceased.  Eddie died August 21, 2021 after a short illness.  He attended St. Colman grade school and graduated West High School in 1938.  He married the love of his life, Dorothy Bergenstein on November 23, 1940 and were together 59 years until her death March 27, 1999.  He worked at Cleveland Graphite Bronze/Clevite Corp for 43 years until his retirement in January 1983.    He was an accomplished soccer player starting at 14 years of age and is included in the book by Thomas Hatfield, "The History of Soccer in Greater Cleveland from 1906 to 1981"  After soccer, his love was roller skating and bowling with Dorothy, then started golfing when retired.    He enjoyed winning at bingo, the casino and the Ohio lottery  He was a World War II Navy veteran, inducted September 3, 1943 and honorably discharged as a signalman 3rd class on January 8, 1946.  He had two married daughters, Patricia and Clarence Konopatzki, both deceased, and Kathy and Rob Turk.  He has four grandchildren, Mark Konopatzki (Carol), Kris Clark (Darrin), Karen Konopatzki, Kathryn Sherlock (Scott) and six great grandchildren, Claire and Grace Konopatzki; Nicole, Katie and John Clark; and Alexandra Sherlock.  He lived his life in Cleveland until 1999 when he moved to Brooklyn where he was surrounded by great neighbors including his nephew Bernie Murphy and wife Sheila, Robert, Linda and Ben Mihalek, and Donna Kennedy. These people, along with Peggy Needham, cousins Joe and Roseann Ginley plus Katy Shields made it possible with their continued support of Eddie that he could live independently as long as he did until 2018.  That's when he moved to the farm with Rob & Kathy.  He was a lifelong parishioner of St. Colman Church for 101 years strong.  He ushered (especially on St. Patrick's Day) and counted money for the parish for many years.  He was asked what he attributed to a long, healthy and happy life.  He always answered, "Keep moving and don't worry about anything!"  Passed away August 21, 2021. Funeral Mass Thursday, August 26, St. Colman Church (2027 W. 65th St., Cleveland, OH 44102) at 11 A.M. where friends may call THURSDAY 9 A.M. until time of Mass.  Interment Holy Cross Cemetery.
