Elmer J. Kochmit, 88, of Manchester, New Hampshire, formerly of Cleveland, Ohio, passed away May 10, 2015, with family members at his bedside, after a period of declining health. He was born on August 1, 1926, in Cleveland, Ohio, the son of the late Elmer and Ruth (Cunningham) Kochmit. Elmer graduated from John Marshall High School in Cleveland, where he met his lifelong sweetheart, Doris. During World War II, he served in the Merchant Marines. Following in the footsteps of his father and his grandfather, Elmer worked as a firefighter for the City of Cleveland. Throughout his lifetime, he was an active member of Bethany Lutheran Church.

Elmer was known for his (sometimes bawdy) sense of humor, and his many varied interests over the years included fishing, music, card games, ham radio operation, traveling, bowling, and woodworking, especially clock making.

He is predeceased by his beloved wife, Doris (nee Krebs), his son, John, and his sister, Agnes Cook.

He is survived by his daughter, Catherine Kolodze (Dennis), grandson Jay Kolodze, granddaughter Emily Rose, and great-grandchildren Eva and Sam Rose, as well as his nieces Maureen Guion and Lee Cook and their families.

Funeral Service Saturday, May 16 at 10:00 A.M. in the CHAMBERS FUNERAL HOME of CLEVELAND 4420 ROCKY RIVER DR. AT PURITAS where friends may call SATURDAY ONE HOUR PRIOR TO SERVICE. Interment Sunset Memorial Park.
