FRED LICK JR., age 84. Beloved son of the late Fred Sr. and Hulda Ballas (nee Sonnthe). Brother of Karla Telfer and Wilber Lick. Uncle of many. Devoted companion of Donna Erb and her family Tony, Dawn, Anthony and Anna Ruccella. Dear friend of Jim Weisbarth and many others. General Lick served with the US Army in the Far East Command and later joined the Ohio Military Reserve, the reserve component for the Ohio National Guard. In 1991, he was appointed Commander and was promoted from Brigadier to Major General by Ohio Governor George Voinovich. In 1988, he was named Civilian Aide to the Secretary of the Army by Secretary John O. Marsh.
Fred earned an A.B. degree from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, and a juris doctorate degree from the Cleveland-Marshall School of Law.
He is a graduate of several senior military schools, including the US Marine Corps Command and Staff College, The National Defense University and Industrial College of the Armed Forces, and The Judge Advocate General's School in Charlottesville, Virginia.
Fred was appointed to the Miami University Board of Trustees by Governor George Voinovich and in 2000 was elected Chairman of the Board. He is also Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Cleveland Chapter of the Korean War Veterans. General Lick is the founder and former Chairman and C.E.O. of the Board of Directors of Central Reserve Life. Passed away March 5, 2016. Funeral Service Friday, March 11, 2016 at 10:30 AM in the CHAMBERS FUNERAL HOME OF NORTH OLMSTED 29150 LORAIN RD AT STEARNS WHERE FRIENDS MAY CALL THURSDAY 4-7 PM .
