FRED A. RACE, age 82, of Strongsville, Ohio, passed away at his home on Saturday, November 13, surrounded by his wife and children. Beloved husband of Betsy (nee Pappas); loving father of Adam (Elizabeth Goodwin) and Nora (Chris Arrietta); proud grandfather of Victoria and James Race and Jack Ferenczy; dear brother of Eve Smith (Myron, deceased) and Dennis (Kathy, deceased). Fred was born and raised in Cleveland and attended Collinwood High School. He was a lifetime iron worker and proud member of Iron Workers Local 17, which allowed him to accumulate many unique stories about his time working at places such as the salt mine beneath Lake Erie, Key Tower, Perry Nuclear Power Plant, and the original I-480 bridge. Fred had a vast knowledge of sports, Cleveland, and geographical trivia. He will be remembered by many as a loving father and husband, avid storyteller, fisherman, and jokester. Fred was truly a man of steel.  Services were private. There will be a Celebration of Fred's Life on his birthday, January 16, 2022 (details to be announced). Memorial donations may be directed to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation (PFF) www.pulmonaryfibrosis.org
