IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Frederick P.
Crespy
September 6, 1931 – September 6, 2023
Frederick P. Crespy (Fred) passed away at home on September 6, 2023, his 92nd birthday, surrounded by loving family. He was born on September 6, 1931, in Jamestown, New York, to the late Paul M. Crespy and Marie C. Plano-Crespy. He was later joined by brother George D. Crespy, and sister Barbara J. Crespy-Duggan, both deceased.
Fred was a graduate of Falconer, New York, High School in 1949, where he played football, basketball, and baseball. He was also a member of National Honor Society. He went on to attend St. Bonaventure University, graduating in 1953 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. He was also a member of the Army ROTC.
Fred began his career at Blackstone Corporation, Jamestown, New York, as a chemist in 1953, where he remained until June 1963. In June 1963, he began a 31 year career with the Glidden Paint Company, both in Cleveland Ohio, and San Francisco, California, retiring in September 1994. He held several positions at Glidden, including chemist, sales correspondent, salesman, and technical service manager, both domestically and in the international department. His international department position allowed him to travel to several parts of the world, including Europe, Iceland, Caribbean Islands, Australia, Asia, and Central and South America. He maintained contact with former co-workers through membership with the Glidden Prime-Timers, a monthly lunch and social group.
Fred was married to the love of his life, the late Joyce A. Crespy (nee Asel), on May 11, 1957, at Our Lady of Loreto Roman Catholic Church, Falconer, New York. Their 60 year marriage produced a son, Gregory P. Crespy, and three daughters: Kathleen M. Crespy-Slodic (husband Kevin); Lisa A. Crespy-Kochan; and Mary E. Crespy. Fred was very proud of his family and worked hard to support them along their life path and to their many successes. Along the way he found time to pursue many interests, including: volunteer fireman for the Falconer, New York, Fire Department; avid sports fan and radio sports talk show listener; avid baseball and softball player, including as a stand-out pitcher while playing in western New York baseball leagues; avid bowler; listener to Books On Tape; watcher of the American History Channel; and spender of time with family and friends. He enjoyed sharing meals with family and friends at favorite restaurants.
Fred was very committed to his Roman Catholic faith community. He was active at St. Brendan Roman Catholic Church, North Olmsted, Ohio, since August 1969. He was especially proud to be among its first group of Eucharistic Ministers. He was also president of the Holy Name Society at Our Lady of Loreto Roman Catholic Church.
Fred suffered from declining health over the past two years but was surrounded by love and support as he traveled the final path from earthly life to eternal life. Special thanks goes to his daughter Mary, Peggy Osgood from Griswold Home Care, and the doctors, nurses, aids, social workers, and spiritual staff from the Hospice of the Western Reserve for their loving care and support during his declining health.
In lieu of flowers, Fred's family suggests remembrance contributions to the St. Brendan Parish Endowment, or the Cleveland Sight Center.
Relatives and friends are invited to meet for his Funeral Mass Friday, September 15, St. Brendan Church at 10 A.M. Entombment St. Joseph Cemetery (Avon). In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the St. Brendan Church Endowment Fund, 4242 Brendan Lane, North Olmsted, OH 44070 or the Cleveland Sight Center, 1909 E. 101st St., Cleveland, OH 44106.
