GERALD "JERRY" STRINGER, age 93, passed away peacefully on Sunday March 22, 2026. He leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, and devotion to his family. Born in Lakewood, Ohio, he was raised as a devout Catholic and was extremely proud of his 100% Irish heritage.

Jerry met his wife Erla in Iceland while he was serving in the Airforce. Together, he and Erla raised five children (Lilly Vida/George of Elgin Illinois, Mark (predeceased), Irene Maas/Mike of Peoria Arizona, Jerry Stringer of Cleveland Ohio, and Sharon Kanter/Doug of Sarasota Florida) and created a large loving family.

He was a proud (Afi) grandfather to 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Jerry is reunited with his wife of 71 years, Erla, his son, Mark, and his parents Anne Caine and Mark Stringer, Sisters Ursula Csercevits, Anne Therese Jeewek, and Mary Rita Fallon. Jerry leaves behind his sister Patricia O’Malley/Tom, and brother Jim Stringer.

Jerry was a hardworking and dedicated man. He spent many years as a master plumber and later continued his service to the community as a building Inspector. He retired from public service as the building Commissioner for the city of Westlake Ohio, rolls he carried out with integrity and pride.

Jerry loved to travel. He was always ready to jump in the car or on a plane in search of a new adventure. Together Jerry and Erla traveled to many countries around the world. They shared their love of travel and exploration with their children and grandchildren.

Jerry had a deep love of music and was blessed with a beautiful Irish tenor voice. He sang professionally at weddings and events, sharing his gift in a way that brought joy to others. His "Danny Boy" never left a dry eye. At home, music was just as important, and his children fondly remember being entertained by him playing his favorite cowboy or Irish songs on his guitar or banjo.

A Mass celebrating Jerry and Erla, who passed in June of 2024, will be held on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at St. Patrick Church (4427 Rocky River Drive, Cleveland) at 9:30 A.M.  Following the Mass, Jerry and Erla will be laid to rest together at Lakewood Park Cemetery (22025 Detroit Road, Rocky River).

All who knew and loved them are welcome to join us. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made in Jerry and Erla’s names to the American Cancer Society or a charity of your choice in their honor.
