Gerry grew up off the Falls Road in Belfast, Northern Ireland. He was one of eleven children. He immigrated soon after "the Troubles"  with his wife and son to Cleveland, Ohio, in 1972, in search of the American dream. He worked tirelessly as a Millwright at Terex and General Motors for over 30 years, frequently 12 hours per day 7 days per week, to provide the best education and life for his wife and children.

After retiring from General Motors in 2006, he split his time between Milwaukee, Cincinnati, and Cleveland. He enjoyed winters in Florida and summers in Belfast, where he would connect with his Irish family and friends. He was actively involved with his grandchildren's academic and extracurricular lives. He loved watching their middle school and high school sports and his granddaughter's dance recitals. He enjoyed golf and spending time with his son-in-law, with whom he had a special relationship. He loved visiting Cincinnati and spending time with his daughter-in-law and her extended family. He was extremely well-read and loved history and current events. He kept in touch with his extensive Irish family and was a daily reader of the Irish News and the Belfast Telegraph. He was a huge Cleveland sports fan and followed the Irish sports teams, especially rugby, and soccer. Gerry had a strong work ethic that he passed on to his children and grandchildren. He was an absolute gentleman, a devoted Catholic, and a true family man. He was proud to become an American citizen, never forgetting his Irish roots. Gerry was easy to be around, witty, laughed easily, and never missed a party. He truly lived life to the fullest. He will be dearly missed, especially by his devoted wife of 53 years, whom he loved more than anyone else.

He was taken from us too early but was blessed with excellent cancer care from the Cleveland Clinic and Advocate Aurora cancer centers and compassionately cared for by Parma Hospital in his final weeks. May his gentle soul rest in peace.
