HELENE "SUE" DeFIFE (nee Matey), age 80, beloved wife of 57 years to Joseph A.; loving mother of Eric DeFife, Kristin DeFife (Melody Mateo) and Nicole Roth (Don); proud Grandma of Olivia and Alex; daughter of the late Ann (nee Dorulla) and John Matey.  Passed away March 26, 2023 at home with her family by her side.  Relatives and friends are invited to meet for her Funeral Mass Saturday, April 1, St. Richard Church (26855 Lorain Rd.) at 10 A.M.  Entombment Sunset Memorial Park.  Friends may call at CHAMBERS FUNERAL HOME of NORTH OLMSTED, 29150 LORAIN RD. AT STEARNS RD., FRIDAY 3-6 P.M.  Memorial contributions are suggested to Hospice of the Western Reserve, P.O. Box 72101, Cleveland, OH 44192.

When Sue and Joe settled in North Olmsted, they joined Welcome Wagon, which became the source of many enduring friendships and introduced her to a bowling league and gourmet cooking group.

Sue had many interests, including ceramics, live theatre, games, travel, flowers and TV, but most importantly, family, and she combined these whenever she could.

She made many lovely ceramic pieces that are still cherished; the most beloved is a snow village that will continue to be displayed for many Christmases to come.

Christmas with family was her favorite holiday, and she treasured that her family all stayed together for the week in her home.

She shared her love of theatre with her grandchildren. She had season tickets to Playhouse Square and supported local theatre.

She was always up for trying any type of game from card to board to the Wii. Watching her and Alex play the "tank" game and Olivia beating her at Wii tennis had the entire family roaring with laughter. Friends will fondly remember the many games she had for them to play when she hosted New Year's Eve parties.

Sue loved to take road trips, especially to the National Parks, and visited all 50 states. The family has hundreds of spoons she collected to fondly remember her and the trips. Combining travel and games, especially slot machines, was so much fun for her that routes were planned to include as many casino stops as possible.

Sue's yard was filled with beautiful landscaping, and she could always find a bare spot in the yard to fit another plant, especially if the plant started with the letter "H" – hostas, hydrangeas, and hibiscus were among her favorites.

Lastly, Sue loved her TV. She couldn't wait until the TV magazine arrived to plan her weekly schedule of shows to watch along with her lifelong staple, The Young and the Restless.

Family and friends are invited to stop by the DeFife home following the interment for light refreshments.
