IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Irene Mary
Dever
October 4, 1932 – November 16, 2021
IRENE MARY DEVER (nee Rudo), age 89, of Cleveland, OH, passed away peacefully at 9:25 pm on November 16, 2021, after a battle that showed her resilience that represents all the events in her life. Irene was born on October 4th, 1932, in McRoberts, Kentucky. Her parents were Helen Kuritchko and Steven Rudo. Irene had 4 siblings, three brothers, Jim, Jack and Steven, and a younger sister, Joanne. Irene found her life-long love in Eugene Michael Dever and she married him at Saint Clements in Lakewood, Ohio, on August 6, 1955. Irene first encountered a taste of her life's work when she began helping her mom snap peas at the Central Market. This beginning fueled her desire to own her own stand which she invested in at the historic West Side Market. She held this stand for 51 years and still managed the books until August of this year. She taught her daughter well, and now Diane, her only baby girl, manages that stand that represents her life's work. The people and customers of that 100-year-old market were Irene's extended family and even when Eugene mentioned moving to Florida, Irene could never bring herself to leave the beloved passion that filled and made her life rich with friendship and the deep satisfaction of knowing she fueled the people of Cleveland for over 51 years. Irene spent many a Friday afternoon enjoying time with friends at Felice's, and in her rare free time away, Irene was quite an astute gambler who loved bus trips to casinos once Eugene was not there to help her steal away to Vegas. Irene is survived by Michael Eugene Dever and his wife, Janet. Diane Michelle Dever, Tim Dever and his wife, Gina, and her grand-son, Jake Patrick Dever. Irene is predeceased by her spouse, Eugene Michael Dever, and her son, Steven James Dever. Irene was a persistent fighter, loving mother, and loyal friend. Funeral Service Monday, November 29, at 10:30 A.M. in the CHAMBERS FUNERAL HOME of CLEVELAND, 4420 ROCKY RIVER DR. AT PURITAS, where friends may call SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 28, 1-4 P.M.
