It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Irene Ina Shaker, at the age of 91.
Irene was born in Boston, grew up in Magnolia, Massachusetts and Jacksonville, Florida. She graduated from St. Ann's High School in Gloucester. In 1963 she moved to Ohio to help her husband establish a family grocery business, Shaker's Market, later known as Shaker's IGA Marketplace.
Irene was a devoted and loving mother, Nana, and great-Nana. She was an exceptional cook and baker, making thousands of brownies and chocolate chip cookies over the years for her son Bob's memorial golf outing, a labor of love that brought joy to so many.
She was also a wonderful hostess who loved bringing family and friends together. Irene was a devout Catholic and a faithful member of St. Mary's of the Falls Catholic Church for more than 60 years. She was proud of her Lebanese heritage and deeply dedicated to her family and friends.
Irene was preceded in death by her parents, Akl and Mahiba Ina; her son, Bob Shaker; her brothers, Alfred Ina and Sam Ina; her sister, Rhoda (Bernie) Silva; her nephew, Bill Ina; her step-granddaughter, Michelle Parisi; and her brother-in-law, Fuad Shaker.
She is survived by her loving daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn and Ken Horvat, and Elaine and John Parisi; her daughter-in-law, Debbie Shaker; her granddaughters, Jenna (Ben) Keene and Jamie (Logan) Peltier; her step-granddaughter, Lydia (Ryan) Nordhoff; her great-grandchildren, Bradley and Colin Keene, and Parker and Ford Peltier; her step-great-granddaughter, Brighton Nordhoff; her former husband, Fred Shaker; her sister, Elinor (Pete) Bowes; her sisters- and brothers-in-law, Carol Ina, Eva (Joe, deceased) Wehbe, Frank and Kitty Shaker, Paula Shaker and many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, godchildren, and dear friends.
Irene's Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, June 19, at St. Mary of the Falls Church (25615 Bagley Road, Olmsted Falls) at 10:00 A.M. with Fr. Robert Cole (Principal Celebrant) and Deacon Rich Mueller (Homilist). Entombment to follow at Sunset Memorial Park Westwood Abbey Mausoleum (6265 Columbia Road, North Olmsted). Friends may call at CHAMBERS FUNERAL HOME of NORTH OLMSTED, 29150 LORAIN RD. AT STEARNS RD., THURSDAY, JUNE 18, 4:00 P.M. TO 7:00 P.M.
