In loving memory of James  (Jim) Leo Batt, who just three days shy of his ninety-third birthday passed from this world into our Lord's Heavenly Kingdom.  Jim was born April 27, 1930 in Buffalo, New York. His memory was remarkable; often recounting fond childhood memories of growing up in Lockport and enjoying summers working on his Uncle's farm. His youthful pranks were extensive, including fishing for the flying duck! He attended Canisius College in Buffalo, New York where he he earned duel degrees in Philosophy and Mathematics. While at Canisius he met the love of his life, Ellie Suchan.  After marrying in 1953, he continued his studies, completing a BS in Engineering at SUNY Buffalo. He served briefly in the U.S. Army then made his career in with DuPont both at Niagara Falls, NY and Cleveland, Ohio.   Jim and Ellie just this month celebrated their seventieth wedding anniversary.

Faith and family were the guideposts of Jim's life.  He and Ellie parented ten children and the family grew to include thirty-three grandchildren and thirty-two great grandchildren.  Many summers included vacations to the Adirondack Mountains or Lake Chautauqua in western New York State. Jim loved to hunt and fish and passed that love along to other family members.  After moving to Berea, Ohio in 1974, the Batt family spent many years living on Adelbert Street. Jim's word was his pledge and his loyalty unwavering. Of sharp wit and mind, Jim stayed remarkably abreast of current affairs and geopolitical events.  He loved a good joke and his high laughter will remain a cherished family memory.

The lives touched by Jim's presence are countless. For over forty years, Jim sponsored and mentored individuals seeking lifelong sobriety.  Whether founding a new group, leading meetings, being available for advice or counseling, or simply preparing the meeting's coffee - Jim was committed.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents Agnes (nee Sharkey) and Edward Batt, brother Edward Batt, and sisters Barbara Dumont and Agnes Hoffman, daughter Rosemarie, and grandson Nick.  Jim is survived by his wife of seventy years, Ellie and his remaining family of nine children, thirty-two grandchildren, and thirty-two great grandchildren.  He will be greatly missed!
