JAMES “JIMMY” DEANE age 83, of Hinckley, Ohio, passed away peacefully at home on April 17, 2026, surrounded by his loving family, after a courageous 22-year battle with Parkinson’s disease.

Born April 18, 1942, in Doona, Ballycroy, County Mayo, Ireland, to the late Manus and Annie Deane (née Mangan), he spent time in England before immigrating to the United States in 1961. He first settled in Cleveland, then moved to Chicago, before ultimately returning to Cleveland, which he proudly made his permanent home.

A proud member of Building Laborers’ Local 310 since 1962, he dedicated his career to the labor movement. He served as Business Agent beginning in 1991 and later as Business Manager from 1995 until his retirement in 2004. A man of few words but great presence, when he spoke, people listened. He was deeply respected and led with quiet strength, integrity, and fairness, always treating others as he wished to be treated—a true gentleman in every sense of the word.

He found great joy in time spent with family, trips to Ireland, following Cleveland sports, and sharing good craic. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father, cherished Papa, and loyal friend.

Preceded in death by his son, James Deane; brothers Anthony, Thomas, Manus, Eddie, and Michael; and sisters Nora and Katie.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Noreen (née Grealis); daughters Ann Marie, Tricia (Joe) Ptak, and Shannon (James) Perrotta; grandchildren James Deane Ptak, Kelley Noreen Ptak, and Jennifer Rian Ptak; brothers Hugh and John (Dymphna); and sister Lizzie.

A Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday April 22, 2026 at St. Colette Catholic Church (330 W. 130th St. Brunswick) at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Friends may call at CHAMBERS FUNERAL HOME of CLEVELAND, 4420 ROCKY RIVER DRIVE AT PURITAS TUESDAY 4-8 P.M.
