JEROME W. “JERRY” GIERSZ, age 79. Beloved husband of Loretta (née Yamamoto); loving father of Debbie Latessa, Stephanie Bunch (Jason), and Justine “Tina” Pfeiffer; grandfather of Brian, Justin, Taylor, Jason, Dominic, Julee, Evan, Jillian, Nathan, and Brendan; great-grandfather of Michael, Kaia, and one on the way; son of the late Lee (née Schwartz) and Jerome A. Giersz; brother of the late Dennis Giersz; brother-in-law, uncle, and friend of many. U.S. Navy veteran. Passed away May 29, 2026. Funeral service Wednesday, June 10, at 6:00 PM at the Chambers Funeral Home of Cleveland, 4420 Rocky River Dr. at Puritas, where friends may call from 4:00 PM until the time of service.
Jerry was born on May 20, 1947. He grew up in Cleveland, attending Saint Ignatius Grade School and Saint Edward High School. After graduation, he proudly served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Kearsarge.
On July 10, 1971, he married the love of his life, Loretta, beginning a lifelong partnership filled with love and devotion.
Jerry dedicated more than 35 years of his career to American Greetings, working in systems and data entry. He was a hardworking and loyal man who took great pride in providing for his family.
Jerry found joy in life’s simple pleasures—taking drives through the Cleveland Metroparks while listening to music; his love of nice cars; leatherworking; playing softball with work friends; watching his grandkids play baseball; making his “million-dollar soup”; relaxing on the couch watching TV; taking lots of naps, even in the company of others; and cheering on Cleveland sports teams—but most of all, fishing and taking fishing trips.
Our hearts are broken, but we are grateful for the love, laughter, and memories he gave us. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
A memorial luncheon will be held at a later date.
