JOSEPH PATRICK PHILBIN, age 89, of Marietta, Georgia, passed away peacefully at his home after cardiac complications on Monday, March 9, 2026.
Son of the late Patrick Joseph Philbin and Bridget McNulty Philbin of Cleveland Heights, Ohio. Dear Brother of Jack Philbin – deceased (Patricia), Mary Schultz (Charlie – deceased) and Ann Ludwig (Mike - deceased). Father of Colleen Licursi (Rudy), Patrick Joseph Philbin (Kathleen), Maureen McMahan (Keith McMahan - deceased), Kathleen Hugebeck (Dennis) and Jack Clark (deceased) and beloved father of William Clark. Grandfather of Nick Licursi (Lisa), Officer Laura Licursi WPD, Gina Piscone (Shane), Andrew Philbin, Alexander Philbin (Brittany), Aaron Philbin (Nikki), Lieutenant Colonel USAF Bridget Pantaleon, Megan Maurer (Eric), (Joseph Anthony Colombo, Ashley Ann Colombo, and Jonathan David Legleitner – deceased), Candice Columbo, Elise Legleitner, Janos Hugebeck, Attila Hugebeck and Christian Hugebeck and 24 great-grandchildren with 2 more on the way and 2 great-great grandchildren.
There is no doubt from his large line of lineage that Joe was a man of good standing within the Irish Catholic Community. His love of all sports was evident by all who knew him – he staunchly held his ground amongst a sea of Georgia fans as he blatantly cheered for “THE OHIO STATE” and the Cleveland Browns. As one of the original tenants of Atlanta’s Merchandise Mart, he was known for his gregarious nature and sense of humor. This Saint Paddy’s Day he will be raising his glass of whiskey with St. Patrick himself quoting, “I made it to heaven a full half hour before the devil knew I was dead!”
Funeral Mass Thursday, March 19, Communion of Saints Parish (St. Ann Church) (2175 Coventry Rd., Cleveland Hts., OH 44118) at 10:30 A.M. (PLEASE MEET AT CHURCH). Interment Lake View Cemetery. Friends may call at CHAMBERS FUNERAL HOME of CLEVELAND, 4420 ROCKY RIVER DR. AT PURITAS, WEDNESDAY, MARCH 18, 5-7 P.M.
