KATHLEEN McGUANE (nee Moriarty), born in Brooklyn, New York, passed away of natural causes on September 29, 2022, at the age of 90. Kathleen was married to Jack (John Jr) for 65 years while raising her five children Kathleen, Madeleine O'Malley (Patrick), Mary Selhorst (Tim), Deirdre and John III. She is the grandmother of Elizabeth, Michael, Deirdre, and Patrick O'Malley and Kathleen (aka Katie) and Hannah Selhorst. She is preceded in death by her parents, Michael and Kathleen Moriarty and her siblings Michael (aka Al), John, Joan and Joseph Moriarty.

Kathleen was the daughter of Irish-born parents, Michael Moriarty of Inch, County Kerry, Ireland and Kathleen Moran of Dingle, County Kerry, Ireland. She spent her early life in Brooklyn, New York and at the family's summer bungalow on Breezy Point in Queens. Kathleen met her husband Jack on a ferry from Rockaway in Queens on the way to Manhattan, where they both worked. She married Jack in 1957 and had five children while living on Long Island, New York. The family moved to Cleveland, Ohio, in the mid-1970s and joined St. Clements Parish in Lakewood, Ohio, where they remained members for over 40 years. Kathleen and Jack moved to VitaliaSenior Living in Westlake in early 2020.

Kathleen came from a huge Irish family with 16 aunts and uncles, over 70 first cousins on the Moriarty side of the family, and more on the Moran side. She loved her Catholic faith, was unbelievably proud of her Irish heritage and loved to regale us with tales of her colorful Moriarty and Moran Aunts, Uncles and cousins. The apple doesn't fall far because her grandmother Catherine O'Donnell Moriarty was also a legendary character in Ireland. The stories are endless. She bragged about being Irish to everyone and instilled that Irish pride in her children.

Her world revolved around her family; she loved her children and husband fiercely. She welcomed everyone and her children's friends felt the same loving warmth and enjoyed spending time at our home. She was always sure to offer more than "Irish American portions," which was an inside joke from her Irish mother about not preparing enough food for guests. Her Catholic faith never wavered in her 90 years. She was a loving and gentle soul and what we will remember the most is that she LOVED to laugh and was so very generous with her laughter. We will miss that dearly.

Momma bear, we take comfort knowing you were greeted by your big Irish family and are having a fabulous reunion. You have protected us our entire lives and now it's time to rest. We love you beyond what can be expressed in words and will cherish your memories in our hearts. Our loss is profound, but we will move forward living the legacy of kindness and faith you instilled in all of us. We love and miss you so much.

Until we meet again…
