LILLIAN K. SCHABEL (nee Maslanka), age 94, passed away May 6, 2020. The youngest of 5 children, Lillian was born 11/6/25 to Polish immigrants Katarzyna and Wladyslaw Maslanka. She was baptized Leokadya Maslanka. Preceeded in death were her siblings Karl, Theodore, Stanley and Bernice.
She grew up in the Tremont area, attended St. John Cantius Grade School and graduated from Lincoln High School. She obtained a Nursing Degree through the Nursing Cadette Core during the war and practiced nursing at Lakewood and Fairview Hospitals.
Married Edward G. Schabel in 1949 (deceased 1992). Lillian had 4 children; eldest son Roy (deceased 1988), Karen Euston (Sam) of California, Judith Hartman (Stephen) of Sunbury and Russell Schabel (Coletta) of Strongsville and their 3 children; her cherished Grandsons Justin the engineer, Adam the sports writer and Jacob the pilot.
As a child Lillian was an avid reader and remained so her entire life. She enjoyed traveling, was involved in several card groups, was an Elvis Presley fan and loved playing Blackjack. Las Vegas was a favorite vacation spot for her and her husband. Lillian was a long time resident of North Olmsted and parishioner of Saint Clarence Church. An important aspect and contribution of Lillian's life were the annual family vacations she initiated to the Atlantic Coast and the Jersey Shore that spanned over 4 decades. This anticipated yearly event provided cherished memories of family, ocean, sand, boardwalks, soft pretzels and caramel corn and will remain forever in the memories of for her children and grandchildren.
Due to pandemic restrictions, a private viewing and Funeral Mass will be held for the family. Interment will be along side her loving and devoted husband at Lakewood Park Cemetery in Rocky River.
