Maria de la Luz Galindo (nee Muñoz) "Luchita", 97, a long-time resident of Fairview Park, OH was granted her angel wings on May 20, 2016 as she passed peacefully surrounded by loving family. Luchita was born on February 17, 1919 in DePue, IL to Natividad Muñoz and Bartolo Sosa. As a young child, she and her family returned to Leon, Mexico. She later moved to Mexico City with her husband where her eleven children were born. In 1968, she and her eight youngest children relocated to Cleveland, OH. Founder of the Luchita's Mexican Restaurants, she opened her first restaurant in 1981 at the age of 62. She was respected and admired for her visionary leadership and spirit, her passion for the business, and her deep sense of integrity and courtesy. Most importantly, she was a kind and humble woman, a philanthropist who remained a quiet donor who loathed public recognition. Of all her accomplishments, Mrs. Galindo's greatest achievements have been in the lives of her family and friends. She had a unique gift of recognizing and appreciating the talents in others and was able to make them feel loved and lifted by her presence. Her creative mind, kind heart and brilliant smile allowed her to make everything sparkle--from cooking in her restaurants to her civic involvement to a simple story told to the grandchildren. "Abuelita Luchis" as her loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren called her, was her most treasured title. She is survived by six sons and four daughters: Jorge, Jesus, Hilda, Eduardo, Esther, Susana, Alex, Mari, Jose and Rey; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; sons-in-law; daughters-in-law; sister, Carmen Muñoz of Leon, Mexico; extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Sebastian Galindo, son Arturo and two brothers, Jesus and Concepcion Muñoz. As per her wishes, a private family service was held at Chambers Funeral Home of Cleveland. A Mass will be held Saturday, June 25, at 9:30 A.M. at the Sagrada Familia Church, 7919 Detroit Ave., Cleveland, OH 44102 followed by a Celebration of Life reception.
