MARY EILEEN FOGARTY was born in Cleveland, Ohio, the only child of the late Mary (nee Germ) and Thomas Fogarty. After graduating from Fairview High School she received a BS degree in Music Education and an MA degree in Music History from Case Western Reserve University. After college she was Choral Director in the Cleveland Public Schools, most notably at John F. Kennedy and John Marshall High Schools.
After taking early retirement, she then had a second career in the Chemistry Department at CWRU as department assistant in charge of the Academic Affairs Office and as secretary to the Chair.
With a strong interest in the performing arts as a singer, she was a soloist with the Cleveland Orchestra and Cleveland Philharmonic and appeared in musicals and operas with Lake Erie Opera, Karamu Theater, Huntington Playhouse, Clague Playhouse, and Berea Summer Theater.
She was a soprano soloist at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Cleveland Heights, Lakewood Methodist Church, and Messiah Lutheran Church in Fairview Park.
As a volunteer she taped books for the Cleveland Sight Center.
Passed away February 23, 2024. Beloved friend and cousin to Susan Reagan Scialabba and her husband, Frank Scialabba and dear friend and cousin to many. All services will be private.
