MARY ELLEN GRADY, age 90, native of Kilfree, Gurteen, Co. Sligo, Ireland.  Beloved daughter of the late Kate (nee Murphy) and Thomas Grady; dear sister of Kathleen Maloney (Fred, deceased), Bridie McLaughlin (Eugene, deceased) and the late Martin Grady (Sarah) and Patrick O'Grady (Mary); close cousin of Margaret Fisco and Mary Ellen Boland, cherished aunt of 22; great-aunt of 58; great-great-aunt of 10. Mary Ellen left Irish shores for American soil in 1948, not yet 18 years old. She came through New York to family in Cleveland and began work as a house maid for the Corning/Holden family on the East Side. Befriending the local paper boy's sister, Mary gained a friend and a job at General Electric. She worked her way up through the ranks of the manufacturing and engineering departments, retiring after almost 40 years at GE Nela Park. Mary enjoyed being a longtime member of the West Side Irish American Club and East Side Irish American Club. She was a devout Irish Catholic, steadfast in her faith, loyal to her homeland while loving this country, and unwavering in her commitment to family. Despite an ocean between them, Mary remained close with her parents, siblings (and their families), cousins and friends throughout the years. She was an endeared and adored Auntie on both sides of the pond!  Mary E. Grady led an exemplary life of hard work, determination, virtue and a kind of valor that comes from all this, as a successful single woman.

Mary passed away January 18, 2021 surrounded by her family in her home.

Relatives and friends are invited to meet for her Funeral Mass Thursday, January 21, The Church of the Assumption (9183 Broadview Rd., Broadview Hts., OH 44147) at 11 A.M. where social distancing will be observed and facemasks required.  The Funeral Mass will be livestreamed on the Chambers Funeral Homes Facebook page. Interment All Saints Cemetery.  Memorial contributions are suggested to Fr. Joe Caulfield, St. Patrick's Church, 3 Cois na hAbhann, Gurteen Ballymote, Co.
