MICHAEL P. CARNEY, age 46, beloved son of Tana (nee Nintcheff) and the late John J. Carney, cherished brother of John and brother-in-law to Leah passed away on May 29, 2026. Mike was an adored uncle to Xavier and Molly and was deeply loved by his aunts, uncles and cousins. With his too early passing, many lose the most cheerful man they knew and Cleveland loses a committed champion.
Mike had a contagious passion for life and always met people with a warm smile, sharp wit and generous spirit. Mike drew people together and no one was ever surprised to see “Carney” in a room. He had more friends than you could count but not more than he could. Mike cared profoundly for his family and friends and embodied the Saint Ignatius ideal of being a “Man for Others” offering steadfast support to his community, numerous nonprofits and charitable organizations.
A respected commercial real estate professional, Mike served as Vice President of the Landmark Companies in Downtown Cleveland. Since 2012, he served on the Downtown Cleveland Improvement Corporation Board of Directors, co- chaired the Clean and Safe Committee and was a longtime supporter of the Downtown Cleveland Alliance where his thoughtful leadership helped advance efforts to create a more vibrant, secure and welcoming downtown. He was also a long-standing member of the Historic Warehouse District Development Corporation Board and a passionate and generous supporter of Playhouse Square.
Mike was a dedicated advocate for the city he loved and has left a lasting impact on the organizations he served. His contributions will continue to shape the city for years to come.
Beyond his professional life, Mike was an avid Lake Erie power boater, golfer and world traveler. He was a devoted Cleveland sports fan who loved attending games with friends and family, proudly supporting the Browns, Cavaliers and Indians.
Our hearts are broken at Mike’s passing. But our lives are better for having known him. He will be remembered with love by all.
