MILDRED H. “SUE” LINDHORST, age 100, passed away December 9. 2025. Sue was born May 9, 1925 to Herbert and Mildred Bose Marquard. She had three brothers, one of which was a twin. Raised on the West Side of Cleveland in the West Boulevard neighborhood, she was the only girl in a sports-oriented baseball family. Her father played Triple-A baseball and her Uncle Rube is a Hall of Fame pitcher.

Upon graduation from West High School in 1943, she began working at Glidden Paint. In 1946, she met Bob Lindhorst, the love of her life, while ice skating, an activity they continued weekly throughout their marriage. Bob did not like the name Mildred and began to call her Sue. The name stuck and throughout her life, she introduced herself as Sue.

They married October 17, 1947, and Sue focused on raising their three children and making a beautiful and comfortable home. They built their first home in North Olmsted. In 1963, Bob was transferred to New Jersey for 2 years and they returned to North Olmsted. Along with Bob, she quickly made friends in the Bretton Ridge neighborhood and their times together included great parties, travels near and far and many rounds of golf. Sue was an avid golfer, belonging to organized golf leagues as well as enjoying a weekly round or two with friends at Oberlin Country Club. She enjoyed playing bridge and continued to play well into her early 90s. She loved to cook and took pride in entertaining her family and friends. Sue had an artistic flair and enjoyed taking art classes. Her projects are still treasured today.

She used her creative talents as an active member of the Auxiliary Board of Fairview General Hospital. For over 35 years, she served as chairperson of the silk arrangements committee. Her creations drew compliments from both visitors and staff alike. She was proud to have been part of an organization that contributed so much to the hospital over the years. Through her volunteer work, she made lifelong friendships. She belonged to the board’s investment club, and her supper club was the highlight of every month. Her passion for flowers went beyond the auxiliary board, as she enjoyed creating beautiful gardens at her home as well.

Above all else, she was devoted to her family and cherished vacations with Bob, their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She’s preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lindhorst, parents Mildred and Herbert Marquard, brothers Herbert and Robert Marquard and twin Walter Marquard.

She is survived by her children; Robert (Becky), Nancy Nieberding (Patrick) and James (Gwen)

Grandchildren; Eric (Jamie) Nieberding, Paul (Kelly) Nieberding, Laura Nieberding & Yusef Waddell, Kendall (nee Lindhorst) & Gregg Broering, Evan Lindhorst and Joseph Lindhorst and great-grandchildren; Rylan, Caleb, Connor, Ava, Bree, Sophia as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Sue had a great sense of humor and was known for her beautiful smile. Her sweet spirit will be missed by all who knew her.

A Celebration of Sue's life will be held Saturday, December 27, at 11:00 AM. in the CHAMBERS FUNERAL HOME of NORTH OLMSTED, 29150 LORAIN RD. AT STEARNS where friends may call 10 AM until time of service.
