PATRICK McGOWAN-DOYLE, age 69; beloved husband of Valerie McGowan-Doyle; loving father of Maebh Kemer (David) and Mary Clare McGowan-Doyle (Mike Uffman); proud "Grand Pa & Papa" of Niamh, Sean, Déaglán and Roísin; son of Mary Ann (nee Evanish) and the late Robert Doyle; brother of Terry-deceased and Peggy Johnson; brother in law, uncle and beloved friend of many. Passed away May 19, 2026. Funeral Mass Wednesday, May 27, St. Patrick Church (West Park) at 10 A.M. Interment will be private for the family at Westwood Cemetery, Oberlin, Oh. Friends may call at CHAMBERS FUNERAL HOME of NORTH OLMSTED, 29150 LORAIN RD. AT STEARNS RD. TUESDAY 4-7 P.M. Box 72200, Cleveland, OH 44192 or West Side Catholic Center, 3135 Lorain Ave., Cleveland, OH 44113.
Born in Lorain, OH, Patrick was a graduate of Bowling Green State University where he was a proud Alpha Tau Omega fraternity member. He worked actively on numerous social justice causes, obtaining a post-graduate degree in Peace Studies from the Irish School of Ecumenics, Trinity College, Dublin.
Patrick cared for nature and all beings, finding joy tending to the garden when he was able, ensuring the birds always had seed, and enjoying walks in the Oberlin Arboretum. He appreciated a good whiskey, classical and Irish music, poetry, art, literature (especially the Beat Generation), and philosophical musings. In the summer he enjoyed watching Cleveland baseball and stargazing.
Patrick lived in Oberlin with his wife of 41 years, Valerie. He was a loving father, who supported his daughters unconditionally, and a proud grandfather. His deep and decades-long friendships were a reflection of his character.
Patrick endured the progression of Multiple Sclerosis for over 40 years with grace and dignity. He will be remembered for his loyalty, kindness, generosity, bright smile, and loving spirit.
