RICHARD J. "DICK" MILES, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 4, 2025, at the age of 96. Born on May 14, 1929, Richard graced this world with his presence and left an indelible mark on the lives of all who knew him.

Richard was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, as one of seven children. He shared a special bond with his twin brother and best friend, Robert, "Bobby." The siblings faced challenges in their youth, including several years spent at orphanages. Despite it all, Richard always maintained a positive outlook on life, cherishing the moments and relationships that shaped his journey.

After attending St. Malachi's Grade School and graduating from Holy Name High School, Richard embarked on a diverse career journey. He worked at the Cleveland News, a Cleveland based glass factory, and as a deckhand for the Cleveland Cliffs Steamship Company.

Driven by a call to duty, he joined the Army during the Korean War and was stationed in England alongside his brother. Together, they served as anti-aircraft gunners and created lasting memories amid the charm and tranquility of English pubs.

Upon returning home, Richard pursued a career in plumbing with Local 55, leaving his mark on Bay Village and surrounding communities with his meticulous craftsmanship.

He met the love of his life, Bernadine, at a St. Malachi's carnival, and were married for 52 years until her passing in 2005. Together, they raised two children, Richard and Molly, and built a life filled with love and joy.

In later years, Richard became a certified inspector, serving as a plumbing inspector for Westlake and Rocky River and as Building Commissioner for Fairview Park and Brooklyn. Even in retirement at age 80, he remained active and engaged, imparting his wisdom and humor to all who crossed his path at Fairview Park's Recreation Center and beyond.

Richard had a zest for life and enjoyed a myriad of interests, from watercolor painting, musicals, bowling leagues, coaching little league teams to polishing rocks and even taking disco lessons. He found joy in trips to Charles Mill and Pleasant Hill Lake cottages, relishing moments spent on his pontoon boat with a cold beverage.  Although he tried, he never had much luck as a fisherman as he was never an early riser.

A dedicated Cleveland sports fan, he was often the first in the seats with his niece and nephews at Browns games, braving any weather for the love of the game.

Known for his punctuality, luck, quick wit, ever-present smile, and infectious giggle, Richard touched the lives of all who knew him. He was a pillar of strength and support, always willing to lend a helping hand or offer a listening ear.

Richard touched countless lives with his kindness and generosity. A longtime resident of Fairview Park and parishioner of St. Angela Merici, he continued to form meaningful friendships throughout his life, even in his final days.

Richard will be deeply missed by his family and friends, who find solace in the cherished memories they shared with him. Though he may be gone, his spirit lives on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Relatives and friends are invited to meet for his Funeral Mass Friday, July 11, St. Angela Merici Church (20970 Lorain Rd., Fairview Park) at 11:30 A.M.
