ROBERT JOSEPH McAULIFFE, SR., age 90, passed away peacefully at his home in Rocky River, OH on April 10, 2024. Robert was born June 10, 1933, in Brooklyn, NY. Beloved husband of 63 years of Joan (Joyce). Loving father of Anne (Mark) Zupan, Joseph (Mary Lynne), Robert Jr. (Mona), Kevin (Lori) and Mara (Frank) Pogson. Wonderful grandfather of Emily, Matthew, Peter, Michael (Mackenzie) and Stephen; Mallory (Tony) Tedesco, Kevin, and Kaylee; Joseph and Brian; Alex (Kirsten), Matthew, Paige, and Hannah; Bridget and Dermot. Great Grandfather of Joseph Tedesco. Survived by brother Andrew and sister-in-law Patricia. Uncle of many. Preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Helen McAuliffe, sister Eileen (Elliot) Fleming, brothers Jack (Marie), Joseph, Eugene, and Gerard (Patricia). A parishioner of St. Christopher Parish for over 40 years. Robert was also a faithful supporter of St. Patrick Church on Bridge.

Robert entered the Society of Mary in 1950 during his senior year of high school and attended the University of Dayton as a Marianist. He taught at Chaminade High School in Dayton and Cathedral Latin High School in Cleveland. He remained with the order until 1958. During that time, he also met his best friend and personal pastor, Fr. Mark DiNardo. He found the love of his life, Joan Joyce, and they married in 1960. Bob had several careers after the Marianists including working in the City of Cleveland Engineering Department, an editor for Reardon Baer Publishing, Personnel Director for Harris Seybold, Personnel Director for the City of Cleveland, and Fiscal Director for the Ohio Lottery Commission. Bob founded HiMat Construction and eventually retired after twenty-two years with the Gilbane Building Company. In retirement, he remained active as Chairman of Project Afford and was a dedicated volunteer for multiple service organizations.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday, April 19, 2024, at 11:00 AM at St Christopher Catholic Church in Rocky River, OH. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery immediately following services.

Visitation at Chambers Funeral Home 4420 Rocky River Drive, Cleveland, OH 44135, Thursday April 18, 2024, from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Catholic Charities, Diocese of Cleveland.
