IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Shirley
Stocz
November 5, 1935 – November 1, 2024
Shirley (Likens) Stocz was born on November 5, 1935, in Sharon, PA. A long-time resident of Cortland and more recently Olmsted Falls, Ohio, she was called home to be with God on November 1, 2024. She is survived by two loving daughters, Kim (Stocz) Aubel (Jerry) and Kelly (Stocz) Ferguson (Bob), both of Olmsted Falls; beloved grandchildren Alexa (Aubel) Williams (Rueben), Joshua Aubel (Brookland Gordan), MacKenzie Ferguson (Saaurav Bari) and Reilly Ferguson. Shirley is also survived by a sister Alberta Morales, sisters-in-law Barbara Likens (Albert) and Beryl Jean Bartholomew (Earl) and brothers Dale Likens (Karen) and William Bartholomew. She was preceded in death by brothers Gene, Albert and Carl Likens and Earl and James (Eleanor) Bartholomew. She was a loving Aunt to multiple nieces and nephews.
Shirley graduated from Hartford High School where she was a member of the National Honor Society, class officer student council, Homecoming Queen and participated in multiple minstrels, musicals and plays. She worked in the office of Production Control at Packard Electric for a number of years. Following her marriage to Frank J. Stocz in 1959 and beginning a family, she attended Youngstown State University where she earned a B.S in Elementary Education, followed by a Masters in Elementary Education. She also earned her Certification in Administration from the University of Dayton, graduating with honors in all degrees. Shirley taught for 35 years in the Champion Local School district where she taught grades 3-8 and loved every minute of it. She had very smart students who knew how to derail the lesson by asking about her grandchildren. Encouraging and helping to develop their passions was very gratifying to her and she enjoyed hearing from them long after she retired. She was a long-time member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, Beta Chi chapter, an international honor society for educators.
In her spare time, she taught Dale Carnegie courses, making many lifelong friends in the process. Shirley was a fashion icon and loved modeling, participating in many charity events in the Warren, Ohio area. She also enjoyed dancing, going to the casino, a good "non-oaky" chardonnay and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Shirley will be missed and remembered for so many things, but especially her smile, her big heart, her fashion sense and her ability to make friends wherever she went.
