IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Steven W.
Bosak, Jr.
December 31, 1938 – January 20, 2021
Steven W. Bosak, Jr., 82, lost his courageous battle with COVID-19 on Wednesday, January 20, 2021. He was born on December 31, 1938 to Steven W., Sr., and Catherine (nee Kolson) in De Lancey, PA. He had resided in North Olmsted, OH since 1964.
Steve (also known as Bill to his family and friends) is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Joann (nee Ferrara, originally of Anita, PA). Steve was a devoted father to his three children, Steven W. III (known as Bill; wife Kim), Jodi, and Eric, all of North Olmsted. He will be greatly missed by his sister-in-law/"bonus daughter" Gina Ferrara, brothers Larry (wife Mamie, deceased), Robert (wife Shirley, deceased), and Paul (Anna), and his Ferrara in-laws. His many nieces and nephews, and their children, loved their Uncle Bill for his booming laugh, bright smile, and big presence.
Steve's life included a breadth of experiences that went far beyond his dreams. As an 11-year-old, he pitched in the 1950 Little League World Series and met Jackie Robinson. He aimed to join the Pennsylvania State Police after high school, so he enlisted in the U.S. Army and had the privilege of being selected as an honor guard member and a member of President Dwight D. Eisenhower's security detail. Steve's regular duties included accompanying the President during his many travels, including stays at Camp David and golf trips to Augusta, GA. A highlight of his service with the President was being present at the opening of the St. Lawrence Seaway in 1959 with Queen Elizabeth II and other world leaders.
Following the Army, he studied engineering at Williamsport Technical Institute in Williamsport, PA. He spent his entire professional career of nearly 40 years with Cutler-Hammer (now Eaton Corporation) in Cleveland where he retired as a senior sales engineer. In his distinguished career, Steve mentored many young sales engineers who loved him for his natural wit, professionalism, integrity, and positive attitude. He taught them not only how to be successful in their industry, but also taught them lessons in life they carried with them throughout their own careers. Many of Steve's colleagues remain his steadfast and loyal friends to this day especially William "Bill" Genné of Mequon, WI, and Joe Kleinhenz of Westlake, OH.
Steve was an avid reader of history and a gardener who was best known for the eye-popping tomatoes he grew each year from hundred-year-old seeds brought to the U.S. by his father-in-law's relatives from Italy. His talents as an engineer meant he could fix or build most anything. Steve's abilities extended to the stove and grill, and his family loved his exceptional breakfasts, baked ham, and steaks and burgers.
Steve loved to travel, whether it was by car, plane, cruise ship, or motor home. His sense of direction, ability to pack a car to its limits, and auto repair skills saved his family from a travel disaster more than once. His favorite places were home with his family, Walt Disney World and the beaches of Sanibel Island, FL. He cheered hard for the Green Bay Packers, Notre Dame and Penn State football, and Cleveland sports teams, loved eating seafood, listening to Elvis Presley, and watching Jeopardy each night.
His true legacy is reflected in the lives of those he mentored throughout his career and in his children, who hold dear the life lessons he taught, his unfailing work ethic, love of animals, and his examples of strength and perseverance.
