SUSANNA C. RICHARDSON (nee Lackey) age 91. Native of Ballyjamesduff, Co. Cavan, Ireland. Beloved wife of the late Richard A.; loving mother of Eileen Walker (the late Michael), Susan Richardson (deceased), Richard Richardson (Marina), Diana Dockman (Michael), and Mary Carroll (Patrick); dear grandmother of Ann Walker, Kirill Richardson (Tatiana), Alexa Laor (Nitay), Kara Dockman, Matthew Dockman, Brigid Carroll, Elizabeth Carroll and Abigail Carroll; great-grandmother of Max; daughter of the late Elizabeth (nee McGuire) and Patrick Lackey; sister of Bridget Clancy (deceased), Michael Lackey (deceased), Elizabeth McDermott (deceased), Anna May Wilson (deceased), Kathleen Sheehan and John Lackey; aunt and friend of many.
Susanna Richardson was born on March 2, 1935, in Ballyjamesduff, Co. Cavan, Ireland. At the age of 16, she emigrated to the United States, settling in Lakewood, Ohio, where she lived with her Aunt Mamie and Uncle Joe. Within the next two years, her father, sister, and brother also immigrated from Ireland, and the four family members shared an apartment in Lakewood as they built their new lives together.
Susanna worked for several years in the meat department at Fisher Foods in Lakewood, where she developed a strong work ethic and sense of responsibility. In 1956, she met her future husband, Richard Richardson, at the Aragon Ballroom on West 25th Street in Cleveland, Ohio. The couple married on May 4, 1957, at St. James Catholic Church.
Together, Susanna and Richard raised five children: Eileen, Susan, Richard, Diana, and Mary. Their family later grew to include eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
In the 1980s, Susanna demonstrated her commitment to lifelong learning by earning her high school equivalency diploma (GED). As empty nesters, Susanna and Richard enjoyed traveling extensively, including several meaningful trips back to Ireland to reconnect with family and heritage.
Because Richard served in the U.S. Navy in the early 1950s, the couple also attended reunions for the aircraft carrier USS Philippine Sea in cities across the United States. These experiences allowed them to reconnect with fellow service members and celebrate a shared chapter of their lives marked by service, travel, and enduring partnership.
