Celebration of Life
The Brothers Lounge (Walt's Room)
5:00 - 7:00 pm (Eastern time)
THOMAS EDWARD CAREY, age 67, died on March 17th, 2026. Tom, son of Michael and Margaret Carey, husband of Cathy Carey, and father of Kelly (Ed) and Scott (Tessa) will be greatly missed. Grandfather to Emerald and Thea, he is survived by his brothers, Bill, Jim, Brendan (Cathy), Daniel, as well as his sister, Rose. His brother, Brian, and sister, Ellen, precede him in death.
His quick-witted, dark humor, passion for music, tradesman talent, and love of a story defined Tom, most likely a result of his Irish ancestry. His mornings began with guitar practice, a habit he maintained through his toughest times. He composed and recorded his own music and deeply enjoyed playing for live audiences. An avid reader, Tom’s intellectual curiosity made him an amateur expert on many topics. The stubborn, quick temper was softened by a willingness to lend a hand to those he cherished.
He was truly a man of opposites—the tough-guy tradesman and the zealous artist. To know and to love Tom was to appreciate both those sides. The practical business owner was tempered by an enjoyment for chess and jazz music.
Kelly and Scott will celebrate the father who explored nature, loved a gag, exposed them to art, and listened to their stories — all while instilling a keen work ethic. Emerald and Thea will miss the grandpa who played softball and guitar, participated in their silliness — all while supporting their games, meets, and performances. They all know he was proud of them and hope, in their hearts, he has found his peace at last.
However long the day, the evening will come.
A good laugh and a long sleep are the two best cures.
A Celebration of Life will take place on Friday, April 17th, from 5pm - 7 pm. at The Brothers Lounge, 11609 Detroit Ave., Cleveland 44102 (Walt’s Room).
