IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Wallene
Chernosky
May 14, 1942 – September 19, 2025
WALLENE FRANCES CHERNOSKY (nee Osmolski)
Beloved Wife of 62 years to Robert "Bob" Chernosky; devoted mother of Michael (Jane) Chernosky, David Chernosky, Jill (Chernosky) Pratt, Daniel (Aimee) Chernosky, and Joy Chernosky; loving grandmother of eleven (Pamela, Samantha, Hazel, Price, Alex, Madeline, Julia, Eliana, Brent, Nora, and Graciela) and great-grandmother of two (Aiden and Genevieve); daughter of the late Walter and Evelyn Osmolski; precious sister of Mary Ann Rogers and Mark Osmolski; dear aunt, niece, cousin, and friend.
Wallene graduated from Lourdes Academy (high school) in 1960, went to St. John's College for her teaching certificate, and started her career as a second-grade teacher at Assumption School in Broadview Heights.
After marrying Bob in February of 1963, Wallene finished teaching that year and then taught in Berlin, Germany while Bob was in the Army. After returning with Bob and baby Michael to the US, she worked on raising her 5 kids and completed a Bachelor of Education at Cleveland State University. A few years later Wallene earned her kindergarten teaching certificate at Baldwin Wallace College.
Wallene was a teacher of hundreds of kindergarteners, starting the first kindergarten class at St. Adalbert School of Berea (18 years) and St. Mary of Berea (10 years). She even had a semester of teaching seventh grade! Wallene was a substitute teacher for many years after retirement from St. Mary in Berea. She had such a gift with children and teaching that colleagues didn't have to worry about leaving behind elaborate instructions.
Wallene was a gardener, a reader, and a lifelong learner. She was a lover of gorillas and tigers, wildflowers and waterfalls, hummingbirds and butterflies, bees and worms.
More than anything, Wallene was a faithful servant and follower of Christ. Through St. Joseph Parish in Strongsville, Wallene (alongside Bob) was a volunteer at St. Vincent de Paul Southwest pantry, a Eucharistic Minister in nursing homes, and a part of the healing ministry. Wallene led with wisdom, grace, love, and acceptance. Her kind and selfless nature drew everyone to her. Her compassion for serving others left a lasting impact on all of us, and her dedication inspired others to do the same.
Wallene gave thousands of books to children as gifts over the years, and if you visited at Christmastime, you'd leave with a pair of wool socks.
And nobody left the Chernosky house without her blessing: May God bless you, protect you, take care of you, and give you peace.
