WALTER ROBIN
McCLAIN, JR.
January 11, 1945 – April 17, 2026
WALTER ROBIN McCLAIN, JR. age 81, of Westlake, passed away quickly and unexpectedly on Friday, April 17, 2026, while at his company, Lagrange Electrical Assemblies which he founded in 1971. Rob was born January 11, 1945 in Fort Morgan, Colorado to parents Walter R. and Esther (nee Parker) McClain. Rob is survived by his wife Paula (nee Margoci); children W Robin III, Holly Jeffery (Chris), and Timothy (Katie); Daughter in Law Cielo, and 7 grandchildren, Samantha, Billy, Jessica Jeffery, Parker, Nathan Jeffery, Kenna, and Jake.
Rob graduated from Westlake High School in 1963 after playing football, basketball, and baseball in high school and continued is education and football career at Northwestern University. After graduating from Northwestern, Rob returned to Cleveland area and began working at American Wire and Cable in the family manufacturing business started by his father and uncles. With the need to specialize their wire for specific company’s needs, Rob started Lagrange Electrical Assemblies in 1971 with help from his uncles. Rob’s love of his workforce began right away with his first hires from the local people in Lagrange, who he said help ground him and taught him the value of an honest days work.
Rob loved his family and was always a fan of his children and grandchildren in all of the their athletic endeavors, which mirrored his own. He was a fixture in the Cleveland area Ice Rinks, and while his children and grandchildren were playing ice hockey, he sometimes would attend 10 hockey games a weekend including his son’s games on Sunday nights. This also translated into traveling to cheer for his Florida grandchildren in their pursuit of motocross, and would travel around the country to see them race in events from Florida to Tennessee to Ohio and Michigan. He was always interested in all of his families activities and how they were doing.
Rob was a lifelong offroad motorcycle enthusiast often riding and racing around Ohio, Michigan, and Pennsylvania. He made friends all along the way and was still riding last fall at 80 years old. Between his lifelong motorcycle and ice hockey friends, it is hard to imagine that he also had his neighborhood couple friends that accompanied Rob and his wife Paula on many vacations over the years to Florida, the Virgin Islands, Texas, and even Europe to see the world. But the real love of Rob’s life was his wife Paula of 57 years who was there for every adventure along the way. He admitted that he had outkicked his coverage with Paula and was blessed to have her by his side ever since late in his college days at Northwestern University.
The fun stories of Rob’s escapades will be the focus of his celebration of life, as Rob always said, “If I knew I was going to last this long, I would have taken better care of myself!”
