WILLIAM GEORGE ARMSTRONG, 90, a long-time resident of Berea, entered into Eternal Rest on October 11, 2009 following a short illness at the Perciak Family Residential Hospice in Strongsville. Loving husband of Mary M. ("Maggie") Armstrong, with whom he shared 63 years of marriage; devoted dad of William G. Armstrong Jr., (Clarinda Higgins) of Westport, CT.; Mary Armstrong (Ron Kuykendall) of Petaluma, CA.; Jeannie Armstrong Wiggins (Bardwell) of Berea; Carolyn Dietrich (Steven) of Hilliard OH, and James Francis Armstrong, of Berea, and wonderful grandfather of Sarah P. Armstrong of Arlington, VA.; Anna D. Armstrong of Towson, MD.; William G. Armstrong III of Old Greenwich, CT; Rory Kuykendall of Petaluma, CA; Kristin Cope (Robert) of Avon Lake, OH; Kenneth Daugherty of Columbus, OH; Harriet Dietrich and Matthew Dietrich of Hilliard OH. He was predeceased by his brother Robert K. Armstrong.
The son of the late Wilbur L. Armstrong and Harriet C. Kearney, he was born in Cleveland in 1919, graduated from Lakewood High School in 1938, and served in the U.S. Army Air Force. He and Maggie made Berea their home in 1946 and lived there ever since. He was a sales executive for Capital Airlines, Hampden Grinding Wheel Co., Dodd Camera and The St. Anthony Press in Cleveland, before retiring in July 2009. He was an amateur radio operator who was on the air for 76 years as N8DAB. He will be remembered for his great humor, generosity, devotion to his family and for living his Faith.
