William Joseph O’Donnell, lovingly known as Bill, passed away peacefully on April 29th, 2026, in Cleveland, Ohio, at the age of 88. Born on December 26th, 1937, in Cleveland to William Joseph and Mary Ellen O’Donnell (Ryder), Irish immigrants who instilled in him a deep appreciation for family and heritage, Bill lived a life filled with love, adventure, and meaningful connections.
Bill was married to his beloved wife Catherine “Cathy” O’Donnell (Zingale) for an extraordinary 65 years. Together they built a family rooted in love and shared experiences. He is survived by Cathy and their four children: Kevin O’Donnell (Dianna), Maureen Dockrill, Shannon White, and Kellie Reddinger (Michael). Bill was also a proud grandfather to his grandchildren Shane Dockrill, Nicole Sparks (Nicholas), Zachary White, Bailee White, Morgan Reddinger, and Jordan Reddinger. His legacy continues through his great-grandchildren Nathan Sparks, Norah Sparks and Rynlee Stiner. He was predeceased by his parents Joseph and Mary O’Donnell, his brother Thomas O’Donnell, and his sister Mary Patek.
A devout Roman Catholic throughout his life, Bill’s faith was a cornerstone of his character. It guided him through life’s joys and challenges alike. Those who knew him remember him as a man who embraced life fully—boldly at times and quietly at others—always demonstrating that life is meant to be lived with purpose and passion.
Bill’s children fondly recall the countless family outings he orchestrated with enthusiasm and care. Whether teaching them how to snow ski or embarking on motorhome camping trips across the country to visit historical sites, Bill created memories that will be treasured for generations. These adventures were not just about seeing new places but about learning together as a family and appreciating the beauty of the country around them.
Family was at the heart of everything Bill did. He showed those closest to him the importance of staying connected and cherishing one another. His love for his family was unwavering—a constant source of strength for those who were fortunate enough to call him husband, father, grandfather, or friend.
Bill leaves behind a legacy of love, adventure, faith, and connection that will continue to inspire all who know him. May his memory bring comfort to those who mourn his passing while remembering the incredible life he lived.
