WILLIAM J. RYAN, age 92. Passed away on Wednesday, July 22, 2026. Beloved husband of 60 years to the late Anne (nee Tobin); loving father of William (Anne), Kevin (Carol), Dennis (deceased), Michelle Stewart (Michael), Helen Adele (deceased) and Megan Banas (Reb); grandfather of John (Alexandra), Patrick, Emma Pavilack (Austin), Michael (Kaya), Will (Molly), Jack (Madeline Thew), Madison, Reb Jr., Blake, Grace and Ryan; great-grandfather of Jack, Elle, Will, Charlie, Tatum and Billie; brother of Richard Ryan (Joan) (both deceased), Adele Malley (the late William) and Laurie Mooney (the late Pete); loving uncle and friend to many.
Bill was married to his best friend, Anne for more than 60 years. Bill and Anne were a true partnership as they raised their children, with strong faith and dedication to church and philanthropy always remembering to make things fun. They loved their days boating on the Great Lakes with family and friends where they were very active at the Cleveland Yachting Club and Catawba Island Club. Once boating had run its course, they picked up golf and enjoyed playing at Westwood Country Club and throughout the MetroParks. He loved his long walks in the valley, an afternoon drive with Anne or sharing the valley with his grandchildren which always ended with a stop for a custard. Family was a priority and he valued any time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and they loved spending time with him too. Bill loved rallying his friends from the Ignatius Class of 52 and treasured his Alma Mater. You could count on Bill to always give 110% and go the extra mile for all his family, friends or someone he thought needed help.
If you knew Bill, you knew he loved a good “chopped steak” as he’d call a hamburger. Bill spent his days working hard at making Bill Ryan Meat Provision Company, a successful family business. Each of his children worked there when they were young and he sold the company in 1984. Bill was a true entrepreneur as he became involved in other businesses in Cleveland such as RAMM Inc and The Redmond Companies.
Bill served the community in a variety of roles including The Northeastern Meat Association, (president),Saint Ignatius Board of Regents, The Cleveland Yacht Club Board, Cuyahoga County Grand Jury Foreman. The Muldoon Entrepreneurial School at John Carroll University(Charter Member), Guest House Board in Lake Orion, MI, The Health Space Board, Westwood Country Club Board (President) and The Cleveland Metroparks Board (Commissioner) Bill was truly A Man For Others.
