JOHN J. "JACK" KAHL, JR., age 78, passed away peacefully at home December 30, 2018 with his family by his side. His spirit and enthusiasm for life was enduring until the end. Jack, most of all, loved his family. He was the beloved husband of Sherry (nee Campbell); loving father of John (Diane), Bill (JoAnn), Annemarie, Julie Weaver (Dan), and Lisa (fiance, Bill Moore); cherished grandfather of Michelle, Jack, Billy, Joe, Brooke, Ethan, Sean, Marina, Maggie, Michael, Abby, Evan, Mary Kate, and Sarah; beloved son of the late Margaret (nee Wallenhorst) and John J. Kahl, Sr.; much-loved oldest brother of Terese Blaha (George) (both deceased), Jim (deceased) (Alice), Coletta Mulloy (Jack), Margie Forshey (Jim), and Joe (deceased) (JoAnn) (Tim Alberts). Jack Kahl was born on September 20, 1940 on the near westside of Cleveland. The family moved west to become active members of St. Patrick Parish (West Park). He attended St. Edward High School and John Carroll University where he later became a benefactor and long serving member of the Board of Trustees at both alma maters. After college, Jack married Margaret (nee Lynch) and together they had five children. He also became a lifelong mentor to Steve Brenza (Jackie) through the Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Cleveland. In 1963, he went to work for a small tape distributor, Melvin Anderson Company, in Cleveland. In 1971, he bought the business and shortened the name to MANCO, Inc. Jack was a true entrepreneur at heart. He devoted 37 years to building a successful and thriving company. In 1998, he sold the business to Henkel Corporation in Dusseldorf, Germany, and he retired in 2000. After retiring, Jack and Sherry built a beautiful home together on the lake. They graciously opened their home to family and friends. They hosted numerous charity benefits and parties throughout the years. During this time, Jack stayed very active in the Cleveland community and across the country. He served on many boards including American Greetings, Cleveland Clinic, Students in Free Enterprise, St. Edward High School, John Carroll University and many more. Jack also published a book titled Leading from the Heart: Choosing to be a Servant Leader . Jack was a man of passion, faith, and energy. He loved the challenge of being an entrepreneur. He was an avid golfer. He loved playing the game and had long standing memberships at both Westwood Country Club and Firestone Country Club. He loved all things Cleveland especially the West Side Market, boating on Lake Erie, the Cleveland Browns, Cavaliers and Indians. He was a true cheerleader for our region. Funeral Mass Friday, January 4, 2019, St. Angela Merici Church (20970 Lorain Rd., Fairview Park, OH 44126) at 10 A.M. (PLEASE MEET AT CHURCH). Interment St. Joseph Cemetery (Avon). Friends may call THURSDAY, JANUARY 3, 2019, 3 P.M. – 7 P.M., at the HOLY FAMILY CHAPEL OF ST. EDWARD HIGH SCHOOL, 13500 DETROIT AVENUE, LAKEWOOD, OHIO 44107. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to Second Harvest Food Bank (5510 Baumhart Road, Lorain, Ohio 44053) or St. Edward High School.
